In my OPINION from managing adult use stores since we could have them, there's no reason why most stores are still trying to push $50 pre-tax eighths while we stock the SAME EXACT FLOWER from the SAME EXACT COMPANIES at $25-35 after tax (most expensive is $38.50 after tax with no specials) and still turn profit enough to pay everyone and be totally fine, all while having such a shit location that after two years being there, we still get locals asking when we opened and being shocked when I say two years ago lol. Price per pound is dropping like hotcakes. It's NOT in it's infancy, AU is over 7 years old and storefronts have been allowed for over two years. Realistically, there's no excuse that they're both not equal though. Also doesn't help that Theory Wellness pretty much owns OMP and tries to force Massachusetts law onto us here and usually succeeds. You have to have specific cameras that are pretty expensive, as well as licensing costing ten times more, plus. You pay a lot more taxes on flower per pound, you have to pay METRC regularly and most budtenders I know on the rec side won't take minimum wage as pay where the last time that I managed a medical store, that was the norm. The big difference comes from extra costs associated with operating an adult use business. Also, most of the owners that actually care about their consumers are on the medical side. TL DR: Most owners in the cannabis industry only joined the cannabis industry to turn profits and so many people refuse to do research on holding med cards so they think their gun totin' life will end or they'll have an NSA spy drone linked to them when they get their med cards.
As of 2020, in addition to medical retailers now requiring a paper/printed/hard copy of one's medical card (as opposed to a temporary or virtual copy), one's medical card must be issued from the same state as displayed on their ID.
